Following the onset of hostilities between the United States and Iran in late February 2026, the U.S. State Department has issued a Worldwide Caution advising Americans everywhere β and especially in the Middle East β to exercise increased vigilance. Multiple countries in the region have been elevated to Level 3 (Reconsider Travel) or Level 4 (Do Not Travel).
Periodic airspace closures have caused significant disruptions to commercial flights across the region. U.S. diplomatic facilities have been targeted, and groups supportive of Iran may target locations associated with the United States throughout the world.
Oncor Travel does not currently operate tours to any Level 3 or Level 4 Middle East destinations. Egypt, where we do operate tours, remains at Level 2 β see the Egypt section below for specific guidance.
Egypt's U.S. State Department advisory remains at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution β unchanged throughout the regional conflict since February 2026. This is the same level assigned to France, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Egyptian airspace has remained open throughout, and the U.S. Embassy in Cairo continues to operate normally.
Our tour destinations (Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel) are all accessible and carry no specific elevated restriction from the U.S. State Department. Daily monitoring of U.S. Embassy alerts is recommended throughout any visit.
Do Not Travel zones within Egypt: Northern and Middle Sinai Peninsula, and parts of the Western Desert bordering Libya. These areas are not part of any Oncor Travel itinerary.
The US Embassy in Cairo issued a security alert on April 7, 2026 and again on June 4, 2026 reminding US citizens to stay alert and know the location of their nearest shelter. Neither alert cites a confirmed specific threat inside Cairo or the Nile corridor.
South Africa remains at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution, primarily due to crime. This is a long-standing advisory level and does not reflect any acute or new threat. Our tours operate normally throughout the country.
All our South Africa destinations β Cape Town, Stellenbosch, the Garden Route, Kruger National Park, and Johannesburg β are fully accessible and operating normally. South Africa is unaffected by the broader Middle East situation.
Standard precautions apply: avoid displaying valuables, use hotel safes, arrange transfers through your hotel or guide, and avoid walking alone at night in city centres. Our guides brief all guests thoroughly on arrival.
Morocco remains at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution due to terrorism. This is a standing advisory and does not reflect a new or imminent threat. Morocco has not been impacted by the Middle East conflict and is operating normally for tourists.
All our Morocco destinations β Casablanca, Fes, Chefchaouen, and Marrakech β are fully accessible. The country's tourism infrastructure is well-established and tourist police are present at major attractions.
The FAA has issued an advisory Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) recommending caution for U.S. air carriers operating in the broader Middle East. This primarily affects flights transiting Middle East airspace. Flights to Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco continue to operate normally.
Egypt: Egyptian airspace has remained open throughout the regional situation. Cairo International Airport is operating normally. EgyptAir launched new nonstop CairoβLos Angeles service in May 2026, with CairoβChicago service beginning June 21, 2026.
South Africa & Morocco: Unaffected by regional disruptions. Flights operating on normal schedules.
Always confirm your specific flight route and schedule directly with your airline before departure, as conditions can change. The FAA maintains current advisories at faa.gov.
